Abstract:
To evaluate the suitability of current industrial standard methods in determining the contents of nicotine, moisture, glycerol, 1, 2-propylene glycol, heavy metals, TSNAs and pH of oral tobacco products, collaborative studies were carried out by seven laboratories. The results showed that: 1) For the chemical indexes mentioned above, the ratio of repeatability standard deviation (
Sr) to the mean value ranged from 0.20% to 7.20% and the ratio of reproducibility standard deviation (
SR) to the mean value was from 1.56% to 32.28%. 2) The sample treatments and chromatography conditions of the current detection methods were suitable to analyze these constituents in oral tobacco products. However, the samples of pouched oral tobacco products must be cut into two parts (e.g., by using scissors) before they were weighed, and the weight of pouch was accounted into the total weight of the sample. 3) Considering the higher moisture content in pouched oral tobacco products, sample weight and extraction solvent volume should be adjusted according to the moisture content in samples.
