Abstract:
A method combining shaking extraction with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC/MS) was developed for simultaneously determining fourteen volatile organic acids(including formic acid, acetic acid, decanoic acid, etc) in total particulate matters(TPMs) in mainstream cigarette smoke.By using phenethyl acetate as an internal standard(IS),the TPMs captured by Cambridge filter pads were extracted by shaking extraction with methanol and analyzed by GC/MS under selected ions monitoring mode. The results showed that the limits of detection and limits of quantification for the fourteen organic acids were 0.08-3.00 and 0.26-10.00 μg/cig,respectively.The recoveries were 97.5%-110.8% and the relative standard deviations ranged from 1.2% to 8.5%.This method is suitable for determining the fourteen volatile organic acids in TPM in mainstream cigarette smoke.
