Abstract:
The influences of cut stems processed by different means on quality consistency of super-slim cigarette were assessed in terms of blending uniformity, the relative standard deviations (RSDs) of cigarette draw resistance and routine analytes in mainstream smoke, and the standard deviation (SD) of tobacco rod density. Microwave expanded cut stems, pneumatically dried cut normal rolled stems and cut heavily rolled stems were comparatively experimented. The results showed that:1) The mean blending uniformities of super-slim cigarettes blended with microwave expanded cut stems, pneumatically dried cut heavily rolled stems and cut normal rolled stems were 97.674%,97.005% and 94.846%,respectively. 2) The order of draw resistance consistency was: the cigarette blended with microwave expanded cut stems > that with pneumatically dried cut heavily rolled stems > that with pneumatically dried cut normal rolled stems. 3)There was significant difference of SD of tobacco rod density distribution between the samples blended with different cut stems at the same blending rate. 4) The tar and CO deliveries of the cigarettes blended with microwave expanded cut stem were more consistent,it suggested that it offered better quality consistency.
