Abstract: For breeding new varieties with resistance to TMV and climate spot disease, a new flue-cured tobacco cv. Jinshennong No. 1 was bred with K326(quality flue-cured female variety) and K8(a male breeding intermediate with high resistance to TMV and climate spot disease) as parents, respectively. The experimental results showed that Jinshennong No. 1 possessed good adaptability, immunity to TMV, high resistance to climate spot disease, resistance to black shank and Alternaria alternate, and slight infection to bacterial wilt, root knot nematode, CMV and PVY. The comprehensive disease resistance of this new variety was better than K326. The flue-cured leaves of Jinshennong No. 1 were rich in oil, loose in structure and moderate in body, and displayed well-distributed golden color. Its stem content was relatively lower, single leaf weight was relatively higher, and the contents of main chemical components were harmonious with better aroma quality, plentiful aroma quantity, rich flavor note, comfortable aftertaste and obvious sweet taste, hence the usability of upper leaves was good. Comparing with K326, the new variety was better in comprehensive economic characters. In conclusion, Jinshennong No. 1 is a new variety with potentials for high quality, good productivity, remarkable economic performance, wide adaptability and strong resistance to diseases.
