Abstract:
Multifactor prediction models were developed with partial least squares(PLS)regression analysis for studying the effects of cigarette paper components(including flax proportion, ash regulator content, K/Na ratio in combustion improver, and combustion improver content)on smoke component release and sensory quality of normal and slim cigarettes. The results showed that:1) The release of tar and most of mainstream smoke components of normal cigarettes decreased with the increase of the contents of ash regulator and combustion improver in cigarette paper and the K/Na ratio in combustion improver. The release of TPM, nicotine, CO and CO per unit tar in mainstream smoke of slim cigarette decreased with the increase of ash regulator content and the K/Na ratio. 2) The effects of these four factors on the release of smoke components per unit tar were complex and different. 3) The sensory quality of normal cigarette was improved by the increase of flax proportion and the decrease of ash regulator and combustion improver contents and the K/Na ratio; however, the sensory quality of slim cigarette was promoted by the increase of flax proportion and K/Na ratio and the decrease of ash regulator and combustion improver contents.
