Abstract:
In order to identify sun-cured tobacco cultivars with high nicotine content, low total sugar content and good agronomic traits for producing tobacco products (such as snus) other than traditional cigarettes, 88 sun-cured tobacco germplasms were selected from National Tobacco Germplasm Repository and cultured in Yishui, Shandong according to the local cultivation technology and curing methods for sun-cured tobacco. The agronomic traits of tobacco plants and the contents of nicotine and total sugar in tobacco leaves were determined and analyzed by cluster and grey correlation. The results showed that on the basis of the contents of nicotine and total sugar, the 88 sun-cured tobacco germplasms could be classified into 3 categories at the Euclidean distance of 2.0; the suitability of nicotine and total sugar contents of 5 germplasms in Category Ⅰ was the worst, that of 32 germplasms in Category Ⅱ was better, and that of 51 germplasms in Category Ⅲ was the best. According to agronomic traits, the germplasms in Category Ⅲ were divided into 3 classes at the Euclidean distance of 1.7; the agronomic traits of 11 germplasms in Class Ⅰ were the best, those of 28 germplasms in Class Ⅱ were better, and those of 12 germplasms in Class Ⅲ were the worst. The contents of nicotine and total sugar and the agronomic traits of Class Ⅰ were analyzed by grey correlation, the 11 germplasms in the order of weighted relational grade were S32 > S65 > S63 > S58 > S48 > S61 > S36 > S47 > S43 > S59 > S29. Therefore, the identified quality sun-cured tobacco cultivar was S32, followed by S65 and S63.
