Abstract:
In order to study the quality consistency of cigarette paper, the DTG curves of cigarette paper and cut filler of a certain cigarette brand were analyzed for 35 consecutive months.
NRMSE (Normalized root mean square error) was introduced to calculate the difference of pyrolysis peak (400-625 K) and combustion peak (625-800 K) in DTG curves of different cigarette samples, and the quality consistency of cigarette paper was evaluated by combining
NRMSE with the fluctuation of tar and CO deliveries. The results showed that:1) The fluctuation of tar and CO deliveries of cigarette was mainly caused by the quality fluctuation of cigarette paper. 2) When the
NRMSE of cigarette paper DTG curve was less than 10% in the pyrolysis peak and less than 20% in the combustion peak, the corresponding tar and CO deliveries had the least difference value of ≤ 0.5 mg. 3) When the
NRMSE of cigarette paper DTG curve was higher than 10% in the pyrolysis peak and higher than 20% in the combustion peak, the deliveries of tar and CO were significantly affected by the
NRMSE of combustion peak. 4) It was possible that the cigarette paper of similar specifications (grammage, permeability and contents of additive, Na, K and Ca) produced quite different DTG curves and varying tar and CO deliveries. 5) Predicting tar and CO deliveries by pairing DTG curves of cigarette paper in a given month with the DTG curve of the standard cigarette paper, the relative deviation of prediction was less than 5%.
