Abstract: In order to raise the efficiency of ZB45 packing line and reduce waste packaging material, an automatic packet reservoir was designed. The packet reservoir flanked the cigarette packet conveying passage, and its packet storing device and packet replacer were separately connected to the cigarette packet conveying passage to store and replace packets automatically. At the same time, the speed control program of the main machine was optimized to keep the machine running at a lower speed if necessary in order to emergency stop. The cigarettes of brand "Huangguoshu (Long March)" were tested in Bijie Cigarette Factory, the results showed that the designed device could store or replace 258 cigarette packets automatically, the main machine could keep running for 365 s after its upstream or downstream equipment failure. Thereby, the emergency stop of main machine caused by those troubles decreased by 5 times per shift, and the rejected cigarette packets decreased by 90 packets per shift, production efficiency increased by 1.93 percentage points, and about 654.5 thousand labels could be saved per year. This technology provides a support for improving the production adaptability of cigarette packers.
