Abstract:
In order to investigate the influences of nicotine salts on the nicotine release behavior from aerosols of e-cigarette, nicotine tartrate, nicotine malate, nicotine benzoate and nicotine salicylate were studied. A gas chromatographic method for detecting the nicotine in aerosol of e-cigarette was developed by optimizing the extraction solvent volumes and extraction times for Cambridge filter pads. The effects of nicotine salt concentration and puff number on nicotine release were analyzed. The results showed that:1) The optimized extraction solvent volume and extraction time were 60 mL and 30 min. 2) With the increase of nicotine salt concentration and puff number, nicotine release in aerosol increased linearly (
R2>0.9). 3) Variance analysis suggested that the release of nicotine in the aerosols of e-cigarette was significantly affected by the concentration and the type of nicotine salts and puff number. The partial
η2 values indicated that the effect of nicotine salt concentration was slightly stronger than those of puff number and nicotine salt type. 4) At an equal puff number, the nicotine release from nicotine benzoate was higher than from the other nicotine salts, and nicotine release fluctuated with the increase of puff number.
