Abstract:
In order to stabilize the quality of finished flavored capsules, an online inspection device was designed based on machine vision technology, whereby the wet capsules with off-specification wall weight, flavor weight and center distance were counted separately and overall failure rate was calculated throughout the flavored capsule formation process. The device would send out an alarm when the overall failure rate was higher than 5%, it suggested that the technical parameters needed to be reset. A comparison test was carried out between laboratory inspection and on-line machine vision inspection viewing from the points of failure rate and pressure indexes of finished capsules. The results showed that:1) Laboratory inspection mainly focused on the average weights of flavor and wall material of a predetermined number of wet capsules, which could not truly reflect the weight fluctuation of all wet capsules, and could not characterize the center distance objectively. The tested four kinds of finished capsules presented obviously different failure rates, the highest failure rate reached 13.71%, and the average pressure exceeded the standard value. 2) The on-line device inspected every wet capsule produced. The failure rate and pressure indexes of the tested four kinds of finished capsules met the design requirements; it effectively promoted the quality consistency of flavored capsules. This technology provides a support for the automatic on-line inspection of flavored capsule formation.
