Abstract:
In order to distinguish aroma characteristics of different robust flavor styled tobacco leaves, the functional thresholds of 96 important tobacco aroma components were determined by assessing their functional thresholds in cigarette smoke. The releases of 96 aroma components in mainstream smoke of the robust flavor styled tobacco leaves from Xuchang, Chenzhou, and Weifang were analyzed by GC-MS method to obtain their aroma activity values. The threshold activity values of 10 aroma notes were obtained through adding the aroma activity values of components belonged to the same aroma note, and the aroma note characteristics of different robust flavor styled tobacco leaves were compared by their aroma note activity values. The results showed that: 1) The functional thresholds of 96 aroma components ranged from 8.68×10
-14 to 12.3 μg/g. 2) The releases of acetic acid were the highest in the mainstream smoke of Chenzhou C3F, Weifang C3F, and Xuchang C3F leaves, and reached 475.103, 551.326 and 455.425 μg/g respectively, followed by the releases of hexadecanoic acid and oleic acid. The total releases of aroma components related to 5 aroma notes, including nutty, balsamic, waxy, sweet and roasted sweet aroma differed among the different leaves. 3) The style characteristic differences from the three areas were effectively distinguished by the aroma activity thresholds. Xuchang C3F leaves were characterized by baked, balsamic and roasted sweet aroma notes, and sweet and waxy aroma notes were outstanding in Chenzhou C3F and Weifang C3F leaves respectively.
