Abstract: For improving the efficiency of cigarette cartoning and reducing packaging cost, a YB65 cartoner was rebuilt to produce cartons of special format, wherein the carton blank storing and feeding device was modified, a blank folding was designed, and an automatic labeling device for cartons was added. The rebuilt cartoner could accomplish the picking up, releasing, folding, elevating and conveying of carton blanks and the special vertical wrapping of cigarette packets. Cigarette brand "Yunyan (Baiweirensheng)" was tested on the rebuilt cartoner in Kunming Cigarette Factory, the results showed that at the running speed of 25 cartons per min, the operation efficiency and packaging capability of the rebuilt YB65 cartoner reached 78.0% and 34 cases per shift, the rejection rate of unqualified products was 0.17%, and the cumulative time of machine shutdown was 43.8 min per shift. The packaging quality of cartons met the requirements of enterprise's quality inspection. This technology provides a support for promoting the mechanization level of special packaging of cigarettes.
