Determination and distribution of free-base and protonated nicotine in e-liquids

  • 摘要: 为对电子烟液中烟碱的形态分布进行研究,建立了一种液液萃取-GC-MS法测定电子烟液中游离态和质子态烟碱的方法。测定了丙二醇-甘油(PG-VG)体系样品和电子烟液样品中游离态和质子态烟碱的质量分数,并研究了二者在PG-VG体系和电子烟液中的分布情况。结果表明:①二氯甲烷-水两相液液萃取法具有良好的适用性,可用于电子烟液中烟碱形态分布的定量研究。②在PG-VG体系中,烟碱自由基系数(αfbn)不受PG-VG配比和烟碱盐添加量的影响,但与体系的pH显著正相关。③在相同香精配方的电子烟液中,αfbn与pH显著正相关;而在不同香精配方电子烟液中并无显著规律。④电子烟液中的烟碱盐并非完全以质子态存在,而是在香精组成和烟碱添加方式的影响下形成游离态和质子态分布的动态平衡。

     

    Abstract: To quantitatively measure the distribution of nicotine forms in e-liquids, a liquid-liquid extraction-GC-MS method was developed to quantify the levels of free-base and protonated nicotine in e-liquids. The mass fractions and distribution of free-base and protonated nicotine in propylene glycol-glycerol (PG-VG) samples and commercial e-liquid samples were studied. The results showed that: 1) The dichloromethane-H2O liquid-liquid extraction could be used to quantitatively measure the distribution of free-base and protonated nicotine in e-liquids with good adaptability. 2) In laboratory PG-VG systems, the free-base nicotine fraction (αfbn) was not affected by PG/VG ratio and the amounts of nicotine salts present, however it significantly positively correlated to the pH value of the system. 3) The αfbn significantly positively correlated to the pH values of the e-liquids with same flavor formula, but no obvious correlation was found among the e-liquids with different flavor formulas. 4) The nicotine salts in the e-liquids did not present in protonated state totally, in fact they formed a dynamic equilibrium between free-base and protonated nicotine depending on flavor formula and the method of nicotine addition.
