Abstract:
In order to fully understand the overall characteristics of combustion cone of domestic cigarettes in China, the appearance morphology and falling propensity of lit cigarettes' combustion cone with representative specifications in recent years were tested and summarized. Based on the data mining of the test results, the overall combustion performance of lit cigarettes was analyzed from the aspects of product design, and raw and auxiliary materials. The results indicated that: 1) The total combustion cone falling propensity of 436 samples of commercial cigarettes was 1.58%; the propensity of medium-diameter cigarettes was the lowest and that of slim cigarettes was the highest. Of all the samples tested, those with higher hardness and cigarette paper air permeability of 60 CU, cut tobacco width of 1.1 mm and radially pressing mark in cigarette paper had lower combustion cone falling propensities. The combustion cone of conventional king-size cigarettes fell from the upper middle part of the burning rod, that of slim cigarettes fell from the lower part, while those of medium-diameter and short cigarettes fell from the lower middle part. 2) The ash color of slim cigarettes was the brightest with the lowest ash crack rate, the highest ash shrink rate and best combustion compatibility. The ash color of conventional king-size cigarettes was the darkest with the highest ash crack rate and the worst combustion compatibility. With the lowest ash shrink rate, medium-diameter cigarettes were more balanced overall. 3) The samples with radially pressing mark in cigarette paper of higher air permeability and cut tobacco strips of smaller cutting width presented better ash integrity.
