Abstract: For sharpening the wrapper and binder knives used in MIR-01 cigar making machine, a grinding machine was developed, which was composed of three portions, including the first portion for grind wheel height adjustment, the second portion for adjusting angle of work table and the third portion, a grind wheel transmission system. By adjusting the height of grind wheel and the angle of work table, the knife's position matches and the grind wheel with an ideal grinding angle. Driven by the transmission system, the knife is sharpened through an incremental and layer by layer grinding process. The grinding machine was tested with four heavily worn wrapper and binder knives, and the results showed that the working life of the sharpened wrapper knives and binder knives was prolonged by 43.35% and 40.39% respectively. This technology provides a support for improving the production efficiency and quality of cigar.
