Abstract:
To accurately assess the consistency of puff-by-puff delivery from heated tobacco products (HTPs), a method for measuring the aerosol mass concentration of HTPs based on tobacco lose mass (TLM) was developed. The TLM and the aerosol collected mass (ACM) of four kinds of HTPs were measured with an in-house HTP smoking and weighing system, and the aerosol mass concentration was calculated based on TLM. The results showed that: 1) The ambient conditions had little influence on TLM and ACM, and the developed method could accurately measure the puff-by-puff ACM and TLM. 2) The total TLM was significantly higher than the total ACM for the same HTP and the RSDs of the TLM was lower than that of the ACM, which indicated that it would be more accurate to characterize aerosol mass concentration on the basis of TLM. 3) Taking the TLM-based aerosol mass concentration, the effective puff number, the mean of puff-by-puff aerosol mass concentration and SD value into account, HTP-1 showed the best puff-by-puff delivery performance. This method provides a support for evaluating the puff-by-puff delivery performance of HTPs.
