Abstract:
In order to increase the proportion of cut stem in slim cigarettes, cut stems were reprocessed by a novel roller cutting method. The processed stems were blended into slim cigarettes in different proportions. The influences of the roller cut stems on the overall quality of slim cigarettes were investigated by taking the slim cigarettes without the roller cut stem as a control. The results showed that with the increase of the blending ratio of the roller cut stem in cigarettes, 1) the total ventilation rate of cigarettes increased, the standard deviations of draw resistance and hardness and the density of cigarettes decreased, the physical stability index of the cigarettes with added roller cut stems was improved, and the standard deviation of draw resistance was reduced by more than 8% compared with the control; 2) the static and dynamic combustion rates and the average characteristic temperature of the combustion cone increased, and the central temperature range gradually expanded; the standard deviation and consistency of the dynamic draw resistance and the cone-falling propensity were lower than those of the control, and the combustion cone volume was reduced by more than 23.4%. The shape and temperature distribution of the cigarette combustion cone were more uniform, and the combustion stability was best at the blending ratio of 5%; 3) the main chemical indexes of the mainstream cigarette smoke decreased and were lower than those of the control, among which the TPM content decreased by more than 0.77 mg/cigarette; 4) the irritation, offensive odor and aftertaste of the cigarette first decreased and then increased, the smoke was harmonious and light, and the sensory quality was better at the blending ratio of 5%. This work shows that adequate blending of roller cut stems can improve the physical stability index, combustion state, and sensory quality of slim cigarettes.
