Abstract:
To evaluate the apparent combustion quality of cigars, a test platform for cigar combustion characteristics was designed and established to investigate the combustion evolution of cigars during puffing, using five types of domestic cigars from China Tobacco Anhui Industrial Co., Ltd. as samples. An evaluation method for the apparent combustion quality of cigars was developed, and the correlations between the apparent combustion quality score and various evaluation indicators were quantified via correlation and regression analyses. The main research conclusions are summarized as follows: 1) Based on experimental observations and data analysis, typical apparent combustion defects of cigars are classified into three categories: asynchronous advancing defect of wrapper combustion, coupled combustion defect between wrapper and filler, and self-extinguishing combustion defect. 2) The minimum spread rate of char line serves as the core evaluation indicator for cigar apparent combustion quality, and the char line spreading behavior throughout puffing determines the grading of a cigar’s apparent combustion quality. 3) The minimum char line spread rate and coefficient of variation of grayscale value exert significant influences on the apparent combustion quality score, with regression coefficients of 0.76 and −0.50. The combustion characteristic evaluation index established using these two parameters can effectively assess cigar apparent combustion quality, with a coefficient of determination of 0.723 for the fitted regression equation.
