Abstract: Aiming at solving the problems in primary processing, including poor strips loosening, high breakage, potential pest damage, and etc, a microwave heating and loosening device SP9 was incorporated in primary processing line. The results showed that: 1) the strips were well loosened and no pads or over wet balls was found after loosening and conditioning; 2) the large and middle size particle content was higher, the fine content was lower and the size distribution of cut rag was improved significantly while compared with direct cylinder conditioning system; 3) the pest control rate of microwave treatment was up to 100%; 4) the smoking quality of lower grade strips was improved to a certain extent.
