Abstract:
A HPLC-based method for simultaneous determination of fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose, glycerol, propylene glycol and sorbitol in tobacco and casing was developed, the tobacco sample was extracted or the casing was solved with water;the aqueous sample was purified by solid phase extraction with Sep-Pak-C18 cartridge, filtrated by 0.22
μm microfilm, and separated in a Phenomenex Rezex (7.8mm×300mm) cation ion exchange column with ultra pure water as mobile phase;the sugars, glycerol, propylene glycol and sorbitol were detected by a refractive index detector. The limits of detection of maltose and sucrose, glucose, fructose, glycerol, propylene glycol, and sorbitol were 1.5, 2.0, 1.5, 1.8, 2.5, and 3.0mg/L, respectively. The recoveries of sugars and humectants ranged from 92% to 106%with RSD of 0.91%-1.54% in the linear range of 0.05-5g/L.The contents of sugars and humectants in several tobacco and casing samples were presented as well.
