Abstract: The movement of tobacco strands in an upright pipe was studied with a high speed camera system.The results showed that:1) the conglomeration of tobacco mostly emerged at pipe corners;2) the increase of average air velocity enhanced the vertical and horizontal movement ability of tobacco;3) with the increase of material-air ratio,the average vertical velocity of tobacco decreased,while the average horizontal velocity increased.
