Abstract:
The difference of plastid pigments in green leaves and cured leaves among cv.K326, NC89, Zhongyan100, Yunyan85, Yunyan202 and Longjiang911 from different tobacco growing areas and its relationship to smoking quality were investigated with field experiments. The results showed that: 1) the differences of plastid pigment contents in green and cured tobacco leaves between different varieties and stalk positions were significant under the same culture practice and curing environment. The plastid pigment contents in green middle leaves of Zhongyan100 and Yunyan202 were higher than those in other varieties, while those in K326 and Longjiang911 were lower. In green upper leaves, the difference was less than that in middle leaves, while in K326 and Longjiang911 still contained less plastid pigment. The plastid pigment contents in cured middle and upper leaves of Yunyan85 and Zhongyan100 were higher than those in other varieties, however, the diffe-rence of chlorophyll content was not obvious in upper leaves;2) the differences of plastid pigment content and composition closely related to smoking quality.Middle and upper leaves of Yunyan85 and Yunyan202 which contained either the highest or the lowest carotenoid concentration were inferior to the other varieties in aroma quality, and while those of K326, which contained carotenoid of moderate level, offered better aroma quality. The significant irritancy and offensive taste of middle leaf of Yunyan85 maybe related to its high chlorophyll content.
