Abstract: Some advances in the design and development of less harmful cigarettes, low ignition propensity cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products conducted by foreign tobacco companies were reviewed since 2004. It was suggested that further efforts for developing low ignition propensity cigarette and smokeless tobacco products were needed for Chinese tobacco industries, so as to meet the demands of consumers at home and abroad in future.
