Abstract: In order to find new methods to improve the sensory quality of cigarettes,the application of water treated with ceramic ball made from natural mineral T in cigarette production was studied. The results showed that: 1)The pH value and Ca²⁺ concentration of water increased after treated with mineral T,while the width at half of ¹⁷O NMR peak and surface tension of the water decreased obviously,which changed according to the amount and duration of mineral T immersing in the water. 2) The ratio of sugar to nicotine in cut tobacco applied with casing diluted with treated water increased slightly,while total alkaloids decreased obviously. 3) The casing diluted with treated water functional well in reducing offensive odor and irritation and increasing sweetness of cigarette smoke,but not as well in promoting sensation of saliva producing and mildness. 4) Comparing with the control,there was no obvious change in the pH value of cut tobacco applied with casing diluted by treated water and the routine test data of experimental cigarette smoke.
