Abstract: In order to develop a cigarette which is less hazardous, the permeability of cigarette paper and tipping paper,filter length,cut tobacco composition,deliveries of tar and seven harmful cigarette smoke components,including CO, HCN,NNK,NH₃,benzoapyrene,phenol and crotonaldehyde,of thirty domestic and imported cigarette samples were analyzed,the hazard indices(HIs)of these samples were calculated and compared. The results showed that: 1)Of the same cigarette type,the HIs of domestic cigarette samples were lower than those of imported ones. 2)For all domestic and imported cigarette samples,the HIs of blended type were higher than those of Virginia type. 3)The HIs of domestic blended type cigarette samples were slightly lower than those of imported Virginia type. 4) The HIs of cigarette were affected by the percentages of reconstituted tobacco,air-cured or sun-cured tobacco in cigarette blends greatly.
