Abstract:
A method for determining the solanesol in mainstream cigarette smoke (MCS) and filter with high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (HPLC-DAD) was established, the deliveries of solanesol in MCS of 21 cigarette brands were determined, and the correlation between the amount of solanesol retained by cigarette filter and the deliveries of solanesol, nicotine and tar in MCS was researched. The results showed that:1) Using the established method, the analysis of solanesol could be finished within 7 minutes. The linear range of the method was from 0.5 to 100.0 μg/mL with the correlation coefficient (
R2) of 1. The limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.47 μg/cig., and the recoveries ranged from 94.28% to 106.70% with the relative standard deviation (RSD) of 2.06%. 2) The deliveries of solanesol in MCS of the tested brands ranged from 34.47 to 300.00 μg/cig. 3) The correlation coefficients (
R2) between the amount of solanesol retained by cigarette filter and the deliveries of solanesol, nicotine and tar in MCS were 0.9967, 0.9467 and 0.9954, respectively. This method is suitable for the rapid determination of solanesol in MCS, which provides a reference for establishing an assessment method for the exposure of main harmful components in MCS to smokers.
