Abstract: In order to resolve the water source of irrigation in Hubei tobacco growing areas, field catchment technique was studied.The results showed that building sumps in field combined with covering catchment film between ridges was an effective method, which featured big catchment amount, low cost and easy to build and popularize.In an area with abundant rainfall like southwest Hubei assuming a drought period of 15 days, it would be enough to have 30m² of catchment area and 4m³ of total sump catchment per 667m² of crop area.
