Abstract:
The alkaloids including nicotine, nornicotine, anabasine and anatabine in different grades of flue-cured tobacco and burley tobacco, three Virginia type cigarettes, six blended type cigarettes, and burley tobacco cured at seven different conditions were determined by gas chromatography using ether as an extractant and
n-heptadecane as an internal standard. It was found that the total amount of nornicotine, anabasine and anatabine varied with the types, grades and processing methods of tobacco leaves and types of cigarettes. It is a rapid, simple and accurate method for alkaloids determining in tobacco leaves, particularly in sample preparation and the analysis time of gas chromatography. The average recovery of alkaloids was from 93.0% to 100%, and RSD was below 4%.
