Abstract:
The changes of reducing sugar, starch, total nitrogen, nicotine, total volatile bases, total volatile acids and pH values of flue-cured tobacco strips grown in Fujian and Yunnan Provinces of China were studied during aging. The results showed that:1) the contents of reducing sugar, nicotine, total volatile bases and pH value of the strips were continually decreased with the proceeding of aging, while the total volatile acids were gradually increased; 2) total nitrogen was rarely affected; and 3) the changes of starch contents in the strips during aging were related to the growing district and the grades of strips.
