Abstract: In order to find out the chlorine contents of soil and irrigation water,2116 soil samples and 768 irrigation water samples collected from Henan tobacco growing areas were determined. The results showed that the average contents of chlorine in soil and irrigation water were 30.13mg/kg and 31.98mg/kg, respectively, and were close to or slightly higher than critical level for tobacco growing requiremnt. There were considerable discrepancies between different areas. The chlorine contents of some Henan tobacco leaves were higher than normal,and should be reduced by comprehensive agricultural practices.
