Abstract: The development, characteristics and instruments of the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)and its recent application in tobacco industry are comprehensively reviewed.It is suggested that LC -MS is suitable for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the chemical components in tobacco due to its versatile applicability, high sensitivity and strong separating power.
