Abstract: Inferior flue-cured tobacco was treated with for solutions of urea and sodium hydroxide. The results showed that the smoke flavour characteristics of the inferior tobacco treated with urea and sodium hydrox-ide were markedly improved,a chocolate-like,burley type note was produced,offensive taste was reduced, and thecontent of reducing sugar was decreased as compared to the control.
