Abstract:
The phenolic compounds in mainstream smoke of ten domestic and foreign blended cigarette brands were analyzed by solvent extraction, trimethylsilylaton and capillary column gas chromatography. Seventeen phenolic compounds were determined.The results showed that 1)the major phenols, such as phenol, catechol and hydroquinone, were same for the domestic cigarettes and the foreign ones, and 2)for cigarettes with nearly the same tar lev els the major phenolic compounds of the foreign cigarettes were much lower than those of the domestic ones and followed by the other phenols, such as cresols, xylenols, methoxyphenols, and resorcinol.
