Abstract:
A high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method with a fluorescence detector (FD) was developed for simultaneously determining four prohibited/restricted additives (sesamol,
β-naphthol,
β-asarone and safrole) in tobacco flavor. Flavor samples were extracted with ethanol by oscillation, then the extract was analyzed with HPLC-FD after passing through an organic phase membrane filter of 0.45 μm. The results showed that: 1) The four additives could be well separated within 8 minutes by gradient elution with acetonitrile and water as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Within the linear range of 0.02-10 μ g/mL, the detection limits were from 0.01 to 0.09 mg/kg (
S/N=3). The recoveries ranged from 86.4% to 112.1% with the relative standard deviation (
RSD) less than 10%. 2) None of the four flavors was detected in the samples of nineteen tobacco flavors by the developed method. This method is simple, rapid and features good reproducibility, it is suitable for the simultaneous determination of sesamol,
β-naphthol,
β-asarone and safrole in tobacco flavors.
