Abstract:
In order to reduce the harm of cigarette smoking, the effects of 3 kinds of tipping paper (electrostatic perforated, laser perforated and natural porous tipping paper) on the deliveries of tar and 7 harmful components (CO, HCN, NNK, NH
3, BaP, phenol and crotonaldehyde) in mainstream cigarette smoke and the hazard index of cigarette were determined. The results showed that:1) At the same tar level, the filter ventilation rate of cigarette with natural porous tipping paper was lower than those with perforated tipping paper. 2) At the same filter ventilation rate, the deliveries of tar, CO, HCN, NNK, BaP and crotonaldehyde, and the CO/tar ratio of cigarette with natural porous tipping paper were lower than those with perforated tipping paper. 3) The deliveries of NH
3 and phenol had no significant difference among the cigarette samples mentioned above. 4) The hazard index of cigarette with natural porous tipping paper was lower at the same filter ventilation rate. It was concluded that natural porous tipping paper had good performance for reducing tar and harmful components in cigarette smoke and could be applied in the development of less harmful cigarettes.
