Effects of Pneumatic Drying Parameters on Deliveries of Seven Harmful Components in Mainstream Cigarette Smoke

  • The effects of two pneumatic drying parameters (the moisture content in input tobacco and the rate of steam flow) on the deliveries of seven harmful components (crotonaldehyde, phenol, HCN, BaP, CO, NH3, and NNK) in mainstream cigarette smoke were investigated. The softwares DPS and MATLAB for the calculation of the parameters corresponding to the lowest deliveries of the seven components and the lowest value of hazard index of cigarette (H value), and the validation tests were carried out in real life production. The results showed that tobacco drying at the optimized parameters on the basis of BaP delivery (the moisture content in input tobacco 22% and the rate of steam flow 325 kg/hour) or H value (the moisture content in input tobacco 22% and the rate of steam flow 186 kg/hour), the deliveries of HCN, CO, NH3, and NNK in mainstream smoke and H value of cigarette samples decreased by more than 10%.
