Abstract
In order to study the feasibility of regulating chlorine content in paper-making process reconstituted tobacco (RT) with eletrodialysis (ED), the efficiency of ED for removing chlorine ions from tobacco stem extract was investigated. Five RT samples were prepared with dechlorinated tobacco stem extract, their routine chemical components were analysed, and sensory quality was evaluated. The results showed that: 1) The chloride ions in tobacco stem extract were efficiently removed by ED with the removal rate of more than 99%. 2) The chlorine in RT products could be regulated via removing the chlorine ions in tobacco stem extracts with ED, and the sensory quality of RT products was improved to a certain degree. ED features the advantages of good chlorine removing effect and low material loss, it is suitable for regulating the chlorine content in RT products.
