Isolation and characterization of medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) solvents in breakable capsules for cigarette filter

  • In order to investigate the chemical constituents of common solvents in breakable capsules for cigarette filter, three medium-chain triglycerides and seven breakable capsules were analyzed by GC-MS, and four components with close polarity were identified by medium pressure preparative liquid chromatography with UV-detector. These were confirmed as triglycerides by comparing their NMR and MS data with those in literature. The results showed that:1)The four main components in breakable capsules were proved to be the same as in commercially available medium-chain triglycerides. 2)The four main components were isolated with the total yield of 92%. 3)The contents of the four components were tricaprylin 22.8%, dioctoyldecoylglycerol 37.9%, octoyldidecoylglycerol 25.5%, and tricaprin 5.8%.
