Properties of modified montmorillonite and its effects on filter flavoring methods for menthol

  • In order to investigate the effect of modified montmorillonite as an adsorbent for filter flavoring, the properties of modified montmorillonite were analyzed, and the effects of menthol releasing from cigarette A flavored with modified montmorillonite adsorbent were compared with those of several cigarettes flavored by the other filter flavoring methods. The results showed that:1) The ammonia migration from modified montmorillonite was zero, and no harmful component was detected from the pyrolysate of modified montmorillonite by gas chromatography. 2) The aroma holding capacity of cigarette A was better than those of mint cigarettes prepared by solvent spraying method and fragrant cotton thread method. 3) The effect of menthol releasing from cigarette A was better than those from mint cigarettes prepared by solvent spraying method and fragrant cotton thread method, and slightly better than that by capsule method.
