Effects of cigarette paper property on ash cohesion of statically burning cigarette

  • In order to study the properties of cigarette paper on ash integration and cohesion of static burning cigarettes, an experimental method was developed to determine the weights of ash holding, whiteness, crack rate, ash shrink rate and burn line uniformity with analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The results showed that:1) The weights of ash holding, whiteness, crack rate, ash shrink rate and burn line uniformity were 0.04, 0.16, 0.64, 0.10 and 0.06 respectively. The ash weight decision matrix passed the consistency test (CR=0.081 < 0.1), indicating that the calculated ash weights were accurate. 2) The developed method was used to analyze the properties of cigarette paper on the comprehensive cigarette ash integration and the quantitative results agreed with the actual ash integration of static burning cigarettes, suggesting that the developed method was reliable. 3) The order of effectiveness for comprehensive cigarette ash integration were potassium tartrate > potassium acetate > potassium citrate. With the increase of citrate content, comprehensive cigarette ash integration improved significantly at the potassium/sodium ratio of 1:1. A lower potassium/sodium ratio, higher calcium oxide content and higher air permeability were beneficial to the improvement of comprehensive cigarette ash integration.
