-
Abstract
The new red sun-cured tobacco cultivar Yanshai 7, a hybrid seed from mother Taixingyan and father Wanbao 4, was bred with a genealogy method. The results of contrast experiments during 2000-2003 showed that Yanshai 7 characterized a tower plant shape with evenly spaced green oval leaves, topped height of 134.0-146.0cm, 10-12 available leaves, vigorous and tidy growth in seedbed and field with a field growing period of 78-79 days, relatively narrow leaf maturation interval, high resistance to diseases and good adaptability. The average yield, output value and price were 2449.42kg/ha, 18224.51RMB yuan/ha and 7.47RMB yuan/kg, respectively; and the percentage of first and second grade leaves was 41.84%, which were higher than those of the contrast cv. Yanshai 3. The cured leaves of Yanshai 7 were reddish brown, oily, and firm structure, whose apparent quality was better than or close to that of the contrast. The main chemical constituents were fairly harmonious, the nicotine content was obviously lower than that in the contrast. With distinct style of sun-cured tobacco, good flavor quality, quite clean aftertaste, and mild strength, the smoking quality of Yanshai 7 was superior or close to the contrast.
