Solid-phase Temperature Measuring of Burning Cigarette with Infrared Camera

  • The peripheral emissions from the combustion coal of burning cigarettes made of unblended flue-cured, oriental and burley tobacco, respectively, were measured with a high resolution high speed infrared camera AGEMA SC3000 coupled with an in-house designed micro thermocouple;and the changes of solid-phase combustion temperature during puffing were observed as well. The results showed that the solid-phase temperature of flue-cured cigarette during puffing was the highest, while that of burley cigarette was the lowest, this might be due to the higher potassium content in burley tobacco. The maximum solid-phase puffing temperature of flue-cured cigarette could be lowered by adding potassium nitrate, potassium oxalate or potassium citrate, particularly potassium citrate.
