Influence of Cut Stem Structure on Quality Stability of Cigarette

  • In order to investigate the influence of cut stem structure on the stability of main technical quality indexes, smoking quality and mainstream smoke components, the individual weight, draw resistance, circumference, hardness, mainstream smoke and smoking quality of cigarette blended with different lengths of cut stem were tested. The results indicated that with same blending proportion, the standard deviations (SD) of individual weight and draw resistance generally decreased with the reduction of cut stem length; while the SDs of circumference, hardness, total particulate matter, tar and CO deliveries descended at first then ascended afterwards. The tested cigarette offered the best smoking quality when the length of cut stem in the cigarette was in the range of 3.17 to 6.35mm.
