Effects of Combustion Improver Potassium Citrate and Sodium Citrate Mixture on Mainstream Smoke

  • In order to improve the effect of combustion improver in cigarette paper, the mixture of potassium citrate and sodium citrate was tested, and the effects of addition rate and blending proportion on mainstream cigarette smoke chemistry were studied. The results showed that:1) when the addition rate was in the range of 0.5% to 2.0%,with the increase of combustion improver amount, puff number, tar,CO and nicotine deliveries per cigarette and CO/tar decreased significantly;tar and nicotine per puff increased while CO per puff decreased;2) as a combustion improver, the potassium citrate was more effective than sodium citrate. It is possible to reduce CO significantly while reduce tar moderately by properly setting the blending ratio of potassium citrate to sodium citrate.
