CFD-based Design of Air Distribution System in Flavoring and Casing Cylinder

Abstract
In the development of a new tobacco flavoring and casing cylinder,the flow field in the existing cylinder was simulated and investigated with CFD software,FLUENT.The simulation results showed that the vortexes resulted from the convergence of different air streams in the air distribution chamber and the undesirable characteristics of the air bubbles in the cylinder were the main reasons causing uneven air distribution.Therefore,the air chamber was partitioned and air was supplied to each compartment independently.Experimental data showed that after improvement,the input air velocity difference between the pipes connected to the two sides of the camber reduced from 2.1,1.5,14 to 0.5,1.3,1.0 m/s,respectively;the vortexes in the air chamber and undesirable bubble characteristics in the cylinder was eliminated,and the mixing between gas and solid phases were improved.
