Effects of Triacetin Level in Filter Rod on Deliveries of Harmful Compounds in Mainstream Cigarette Smoke

  • In order to clarify the effects of triacetin applied in filter rod on the deliveries of harmful compounds in mainstream cigarette smoke,experimental cigarettes with acetate filter rods of four different triacetin levels were prepared.The routine chemical indices as well as the deliveries of harmful compounds in mainstream cigarette smoke and the sensory quality of the corresponding cigarettes were investigated.The results showed that:1) when the levels of triacetin ranged from 5.51% to 13.31%,the total particulate matter,tar and nicotine contents in mainstream cigarette smoke did not change obviously;2) the deliveries of phenol and m-,p-cresols reduced gradually with the increase of triacetin level,while the deliveries of carbon monoxide(CO),hydrogen cyanide(HCN),benzoapyrene(BaP),4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone(NNK),ammonia(NH3),crotonaldehyde,hydroquinone,resorcinol,catechol and ocresol changed little,if any;3) the levels of triacetin in filter had no obvious effect on the sensory quality of cigarettes.
