Biomimetic Degradation of Lignin in Tobacco by Fe-CA System

  • In order to reduce the lignin content in tobacco and improve the quality of reconstituted tobacco,Fe-CA biomimetic system was prepared and the treatment process of tobacco(stem and scrap) was optimized by orthogonal experiment. The results indicated that the optimal condition was:temperature 45℃,treatment time 40 minutes, and application amount of Fe-CA biomimetic system 40 mmol/kg.The lignin content in tobacco decreased from 3.56% to 1.69%,and the removal rate reached 52.5%.SEM observation indicated that, the surface of treated tobacco became rough and scattered with many pores and holes, some fiber framework appeared. It was suggested that Fe-CA biomimetic treatment could reduce lignin in tobacco efficiently. Moreover, the sensory evaluation showed that the Fe-CA biomimetic treatment improved the aroma, harmony and quality of reconstituted tobacco and reduced its offensive odor and irritation.
