Preparation of Emulsified Maize Oil and its Moisture Retentivity

  • High concentration maize oil humectant was prepared with emulsion technology, and the technical conditions were optimized with central composite design-response surface methodology. The moisture content was expressed on the basis of bone-dry tobacco, the moisture rententivity of the said humectant was assessed with a dynamic vapored sorption system, and the sensory quality of cigarette was evaluated. The results showed that:1) It was simple and with less experiments to optimize the formulation of maize oil humectants by central composite design. Satisfactory results were achievable by using 3D response surface in data processing and non-linear fitting. 2) The preparation technique of maize oil humectant was simple, the obtained humectant was (35.2±1.2) mPa·s in viscosity and 1.16 μm in particle size. 3) In the first two hours, the dehydrating velocity of expanded cut tobacco added with 40% maize oil humectant was evidently lower comparing with propylene glycol in a dry atmosphere. 4) The smoking quality of cigarettes added with maize oil humectant was better than those added with propylene glycol.
