Effects of Rose Oil Addition on Harmful Component Deliveries and Biological Activity of Cigarette Smoke

  • In order to investigate the effects of rose oil addition on the harmful component deliveries and biological activity of cigarette smoke, the cigarette samples containing different rates of rose oil were prepared. The deliveries of seven harmful components (CO, HCN, NNK, NH3, BaP, phenol and crotonaldehyde) in mainstream cigarette smoke were determined, and the mutagenicity, in vitro cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of cigarette smoke condensate were tested. The results indicated that:Comparing with the control, 1) The deliveries of harmful components in smoke of cigarettes containing rose oil did not increase significantly. Nevertheless, the delivery of crotonaldehyde decreased significantly, the deliveries of CO and BaP reduced slightly. 2) The bacterial mutagenicity, cytotoxicity and in vitro micronucleus assay results of smoke of cigarettes containing rose oil did not increase significantly.
