Physical Characteristics of Different Reconstituted Tobacco and Their Influences on Tobacco Cutting and Cigarette Making
-
Abstract
In order to study the physical characteristics of reconstituted tobacco and their influences on tobacco cutting and cigarette making, the physical characteristics of different reconstituted tobacco were determined, the tested tobacco was cut and made into cigarettes separately. The results showed that:1) The physical characteristics (thickness, size, tensile strength and shearing force) obviously affected cutting quality, the appropriate physical characteristics were thickness ≤0.11 mm,about 55 mm×40 mm in size, tensile strength ≤ 0.54 kN/m,and shearing force <17 N in transversal direction and <29 N in longitudinal direction.2) The major factor affecting cigarette making was the size of reconstituted tobacco, cigarette making quality and stability deteriorated when the size was larger than 65 mm in length and 50 mm in width. In the case that reconstituted tobacco was separately cut,it was recommended to properly reduce fiber addition and control the size of finished strips within a preferable range during reconstituted tobacco production. Moreover,it was also necessary to develop a cutter adapting to the reconstituted tobacco with higher tensile strength.
